Meet Jake Robinson

Meet Jake Robinson— a financial advisor, educator, and advocate for financial literacy. For Jake Robinson, financial consulting is not just about figures—it’s about guiding individuals to make informed choices that shape their future, with a strong emphasis on financial literacy and client success. In his view, positivity is essential: “Negativity only attracts more negativity,” he states. “You need to check yourself in the mirror… you control that.” This shift in mindset was a driving force in his professional growth. When it comes to past mistakes, Jake keeps it simple: 'You can't change it. Just embrace it.”

Jake’s journey into financial advising began with a tough lesson. “One phone call cost me a million dollars over my lifetime,” he recalls. As a young and ambitious business owner, he had earned $20,000 over six months earning $1/order - signing up 20,000 college students for a long-distance service. Because he had all expenses paid, he banked the $20,000. “I knew I needed to do something with the money.” Unsure of what to do, a friend referred Jake to her financial planner, “I dialed the number but before anyone could answer, I hung up, I was embarrassed – I didn’t even know the questions to ask."

Jake's firm is an all-in-one financial planning firm and hybrid broker-dealer, offering the whole scope of planning, from traditional investment planning to full-service insurance and specialty products like reverse mortgages. "We don't sell one type of product—we create tailored solutions for each client's unique financial situation," he explains.

One of the most significant distinguishing features of Jake is education. Jake and his team offers regular education programs, live webinars, and custom client learning experiences. "We don't sell financial products; we educate people on how to effectively use them," he says. His goal is to ensure clients are completely aware of what they are doing before they make any significant financial decision.

Jake's favorite finance principle is compounding interest, which he refers to as "the 8th wonder of the world." He believes that understanding the ability of money to compound over time is the most important thing anyone can learn. "If more people really knew the power of compounding, they'd make radically different financial decisions.” Jake credits a lot of his success to mentorship and being coachable. "Being coachable is the most difficult thing to do," he says. "But if you get a good mentor and you'll listen, you can be a little grasshopper and learn more than you ever could have dreamed."  His advisor and business partner, Roy Matlock Jr., has had more influence on his money philosophy and business models than any other individual.

Jake's turning point was when he worked at Pizza Hut in college. "Right in the middle of a Friday night rush, my manager pulled me aside and told me, ‘Jake, you’re the most negative person I’ve ever worked with – If you don’t change your attitude I’m going to let you go.’ “That was a wake-up call," he remembers. He learned that only negative thoughts bring more negativity. He didn’t even realize he was such a negative person.  “He gave me permission to be positive.”  From then on, he was the most positive individual in the room. "That moment changed my entire trajectory on life and business."

Jake thinks that solid client relationships begin with casual, friendly discussions. "Being friendly and hearing things carefully, asking the proper questions can help in creating a client relationship," he says. He also focuses on education and regular follow-ups. "Education and contact at regular intervals is the key to keeping customers."

Jake encourages business owners to change the way they think about competition. "Discover a way to collaborate with your 'competition'—consider them 'Coopetition,' and a mountain of opportunity will pour down upon you." By working together instead of competing, he feels companies can achieve new heights of success.

The roots of Jake's company are connected to the heritage of Roy Matlock Jr. "Roy is a local radio personality, ex-co-host of 'The Money Game' radio program, where he and Dave Ramsey hosted three hours a day, five days a week for nine years. This made Roy a household name in Greater Nashville." Their current program, The Money & Business Hour, continues to establish trust and recognition in Middle Tennessee.

Jake and his team have "cracked the code" in the financial services industry by offering proprietary software to insurance agencies, brokers, and investment advisors. "This software doubles their business with the same effort within the span of a year. We give them the software and training for free with our unique value proposition," Jake explains. Over the past year, they have brought on approximately 800 insurance agents and 60 financial advisors, and they plan to expand even further next year

Jake's company has established an ambitious target: "We hope to achieve a valuation of a billion dollars by November 2029." At that time, they can think of a partial equity event, perhaps selling 10% of the firm to investors to raise a large sum for founders and involved agents/advisors.
